Depends on what you want. HDs are good bikes but over priced. HD also stands for Hundred Dollars since any thing you do to it will cost at least one hundred dollars or a multiple there of. Japanese bikes are excellent but cost much less. References : experience

Unless you are 50 years old, owning one Japanese bike is better than owning one Harley. Even today a Harley is double the price for outdated technology, more maintenance, and poor performance. Get yourself a nice rice-burner!
Wow, you "intellectually mature and affluent" Harley riders are very sensitive.
You guys should talk to your therapists about this. References :

Depends the function of those two bikes. Similar sport bikes are sort of redundant. Sport and Sport Tourers are nice. Sport and Cruiser are nice. etc
You need something to carve those twisties on. Harleys aren't particularly built for that, so have a spare sport bike (or sport tourer, even) are good for getting that bug out of your system. (If you're infected.) References :

I guess they are if the two Japanese bikes are Harley look a-likes. That way you double your chances of someone thinking you're affluent enough and intellectually mature enough to own a Harley. References : Sorry for the smart a$$ed response but you opened yourself up for it.

What are you dude, 5? Its not about the quantity, its about the quality. Its all about which one is going to maintain its value and be reliable years later. Alot of Jap bikes that are older than 20 years you have to go up and out of your way to find a mechanic that can still work on it, wile own a 20 year old harley and someone who has worked on them before can still do it for you (yes even the dealer will touch it). They back up their bikes far better than any Japanese based show I have ever delt with. References : Own experiences owning 76 CB550F, 89 1200 Sportster.

Maybe for some, but not for me. I use to ride Jap bikes until I rode a Harley and discovered what riding was all about. I'd rather have one Harley than a fleet of Jap bikes. References :

Don't you have anything better to do than troll through YA motorcycles?
Actually owning a motorcycle might take up some of you time, and then you might actually have something constructive to add once in a while.
Actually, owning 2 Japanese bikes & a Harley would be perfect for me.
I would keep my GSX-R1000
I would buy a new dual-sport.
Then I would get a Roadking or an Electraglide Standard.
To me that would be the perfect collection. References :

Bart, I have to say this question is just another way to continue stirring up the Harley verses everyone else.
Several co-workers could own several motorcycles. For them, owning one Harley-Davidson is enough. When we talk about motorcycling, we talk about riding our motorcycles, not which motorcycle is better. We riders need to stop all this "my motorcycle can beat up your motorcycle" comments.
Here is a question back to you.
Would owning 2 German bikes be better than owning one Harley-Davidson?
Suppose a rider has one street bike and one dual sport? As we all know, Harley does not offer a dual sport. Does that make it bad? I don't think so.
So, again, what is the point of your question??
Bart, again I will repeat:
It's not what you ride, it's that your ride.
Enough said, just waiting for the snow to melt in the Chicago land area.
