Why do biker cops us the big harley type bikes instead of a sport bike.?

I would think the sport bike would be faster and more agile making it easier to catch someone.

A motorcycle officer needs comfort, protection from the elements, room for gear, comfort, extra large alternator, reliability, and comfort. Hence large touring motorcycles, not sport bikes are the preferred choice of police departments. Oh, did I mention comfort? Sport bikes would be a terrible choice of motorcycle for use by a police department.

The Harley makes a police bike with lights and other necessary equipment.
