The low range is …
The low range is 1st gear. My cousin has a Polaris and driving his in LR feels the same as driving my Honda in 1st gear. I wouldn’t get mad if they put a low range or espically I think it’s about time for Honda to put a Diff Lock on there bigger machines.

Sounds like you …
Sounds like you need a new angle sensor. Honda had a recall out on them but it ended in Oct 2008. I just changed it both of my ’06 Ranchers for aprox $120.00

For the same reason …
For the same reason Jeeps and other 4 wheel drives need a low range – sometimes you just need that added leverage to creep over difficult obstacles.

why would you need a low range selection when you have the esp mode and can put it first gear for tough hills and such

Brakes. On 2-lever …
Brakes. On 2-lever machines (with automatic clutches and transmissions) the left hand lever controls the rear brakes and the right hand lever controls the front brakes. Why did it evolve that way? Because motorcycles and manual-shift ATVs use the left hand lever for the clutch, the right lever for the front brake, while the rear brake is operated by a foot pedal.

The Rancher (as …
The Rancher (as well as other simple, foot-shift, swingaxle ATV’s like the Big Bear and the King Quad 400) are great work machines but will lack the comfort and oomph for great trail explorers – unless you’re the slow and scenic type. Doug
