im just wondering, because i know with cars you use the teacher’s car. But what about for motorcycles do you need you own bike ? or do they provide you with one?
No is the short answer.
Most, if not all schools should be able to provide you with a bike. The school I used currently charges £98 for the CBT and includes the CBT, insurance, petrol, and piece of mind knowing that if you drop the bike it doesn’t matter! All this without bike hire is only about £5-10 less so it really is worth using their bikes.
Same applies for the lessons. They charge £50 a lesson all in, or £45 without the bike.
I would imagine another advantage of using the schools bike is that you know its going to be suitable for learning on and ideal for the manoeuvres to need to get the hang of.

That all depends on the program. The MSF course I took through a local dealership provided the bikes as part of the fee (was not allowed to use personal bikes.) The course that my roommate took required the use of a personal bike. He ended up borrowing a DRZ 125 from a friend because some of the requirements would have been impossible on his bike. The course that we run from my dealership also provided bikes.

When you take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course they will provide you with a motorcycle if you are taking their beginners course whether you already own one or not. I took the course with a guy who rode to the course each day on a Honda Rebel 250 and they would not allow him to use his bike, but they had one almost identical to it and they allowed him to use it. The beginners course is for people with little to no street riding experience. If you take the beginners course though a dealership they will provide you with a motorcycle in most cases but individual dealerships will vary so check with the dealership you plan on taking the course through. Harley Davidson also always supplies the motorcycle. A course sponsored by the MSF will usually get you a discount on your motorcycle insurance for three years and in some states will waive your DMV test and practice ride to get the endorsement on your license.
Once you have been riding for a year the MSF offers another course that is for experienced riders (hence the 1 yr riding guideline). The experienced course requires you to bring your own bike, it is basically doing the beginners course over but with the familiarity of your own motorcycle. The experienced course is usually taken every few years to get the discount on motorcycle insurance.
