On October 3rd 1982 …
On October 3rd 1982 Jay ‘Pee Wee’ Gleason did a 10.92second 1/4 mile run on a stock V65 Magna. That’s him in the commercial. In answer to your question It is quicker to shift gear without using the clutch and keeping your left hand and arm in board reduces wind drag

THIS is the …
THIS is the commercial that got me into bikes. I can still remember watching it as a teen. Always wanted a V-65 or it’s smaller cousin the V-45…but I guess it’s a little late now!

You don’t really …
You don’t really HAVE to use the clutch on a motorcycle. But if you choose to not use the clutch you just have to make sure that the engine speed matches the transmission speed before you drop it in gear. The driver I imagine has his left arm tucked in to cut down on wind resistance.

Somebody explain to …
Somebody explain to me how and why his left hand seems to not be on the handlebar or operating the clutch. Is this some sort of racing technique?

0-50 , i noticed you did not say anything
about top end. DUDE, i know that my
magna would beat you you on top end.
I have done before with one. Oh by the
way if you have done any racing you would
know 1/8 mile is right about 4 pole lengths. How come there is not much talk
about the elimitator in the 80′s ?

superchargedbonnie said in August 7th, 2009 at 6:50 pm

Go do some research …
Go do some research and you will find that in 1985 the KAW. Eliminator was the Fastest Production bike from 0-50 mph , like i said i only had a few mods done to it ,but the V65′s i raced never stood a chance! i left them @ the line and that’s where they stayed in my mirror . dude r 4 telephone poles a 1/8 mile apart?

mygif
tuffmagna said in August 7th, 2009 at 6:50 pm

The Magna was the …
The Magna was the fastest in the mid 80′s. Quarter mile 10.84 @ 124 mph. The
eliminator stats was 11.27 @ 117 mph.
Go do some research and you will find it.
I have an 85′ and it runs 120 mph in 4 telephone poles length. Carbs have been
jetted and thats it.

mygif
tuffmagna said in August 7th, 2009 at 6:50 pm

Maybe you raced …
Maybe you raced someone that could not
ride v65 the right way. I beat a few eliminators. Why wasnt the eliminator in
the guiness book of records?

mygif
superchargedbonnie said in August 7th, 2009 at 6:50 pm

well mine had a …
well mine had a super trap exhaust & K&N filter and that was is, i would leave the V65 out of the hole and never did one catch back up and go by me, and i raced a few of them not just one, maybe u just got lucky !!

mygif
tuffmagna said in August 7th, 2009 at 6:50 pm

The Eliminator was …
The Eliminator was a good muscle bike.
But on top end the V65 will beat it.
I know because i raced one and beat it.
It was close till i hit 4th gear and thats
when i pulled away. I give it thumbs up
because it is a muscle bike of the 80′s.
But the Magna is faster!

mygif
superchargedbonnie said in August 7th, 2009 at 6:50 pm

true muscle bike of …
