Turn indicator lights are required on the front and rear of all vehicles, including motorcycles, in California.

Both of the above posters and the AMA site are wrong. Turn signals are not required on a motorcycle built and first registered prior to Jan. 1, 1973. Unless your custom is built from a pre-1973 motorcycle turn signals will be required, front and rear:

(b) The following vehicles shall be equipped with a lamp-type turn signal system meeting the requirements of this chapter.

(4) Motorcycles manufactured and first registered on or after January 1, 1973

I drove my two of my choppers with no turn signals or front fender or front brake in cali and never got stopped.Even when pulled over for speeding the officer never said anything except NICE BIKE!

From model year 1973 and newer, YES!
